Boaventura de Sousa Santos is Emeritus Professor of Sociology, University of Coimbra (Portugal), and Distinguished Legal Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He earned an LL.M and J.S.D. from Yale University. He is Director Emeritus of the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra and Scientific Coordinator of the Permanent Observatory for Justice.
Boaventura de Sousa Santos is a world-renowned and awarded author, and has written and published widely on the issues of sociology of law, political sociology, epistemology and post-colonial studies, social movements, globalization, participatory democracy, state reform, human rights, indigenous law and rights of nature. His books are published in Spanish, English, Italian, French, German, Chinese, Danish, Romanian and Polish.
