RUI NUNES is a Physician and got the first Ph.D. in Bioethics in Portugal. He obtained the Title of Aggregate in Medical Sociology and the Title of Aggregate in Bioethics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). He is a Full Professor at FMUP and a Medical Specialist at the Medical Career. He is Director of the Ph.D. Program on Bioethics and of the Ph.D. Program of Palliative Care. He is a member of the Medical-Legal Council (Ministry of Justice), a member of the Ethics Committee of the National Institute of Legal Medicine, and he was an evaluator of the Centre of Judicial Studies. He is the President of the Ethics Committee at FMUP. He is a full Academic at the National Academy of Medicine of Portugal. He is a member of the General Council of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. He was Director of the Porto School of Health Technologies and the first President of the Regulatory Authority of Health. He was a member of the board of the International Society on Priorities in Health Care and of the European Health Management Association. He was Administrator of the Science and Development Foundation. He is a member of the board of the International Chair in Bioethics. He has published 29 books on topics related to bioethics, health, culture, and society, of which the books Regulação da Saúde, Testamento Vital and GeneÉtica stand out.
