João Ramalho-Santos is Full Professor of Cell, Development, Reproductive Biology and Biomedicine at the Department of Life Sciences, University of Coimbra, Portugal. He is a researcher at CNC- Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, where he leads the Biology of Reproduction and Stem Cell Group. He was President of CNC (2014-20) and coordinator of two PhD Programs. His research interests and additional training also include science communication and monitoring its impact, co-creation of materials, narrative medicine and bioethics. He has over 145 original publications, and is an evaluator for 10 international agencies, as well as for over 40 journals. He is Associate Editor of “Reproduction”, “International Journal of Molecular Sciences”, “Fertility and Sterility- Science”, “WIRE Mechanisms of Disease”, and “Biomolecules”. He has mentored 22 PhD and 34 M.Sc. students, and his current grant support is 1.34 M Euros. He authored several works of fiction (in “Nature” and LabLit.com), and over 20 comics on several topics related to science communication, as well as opinion pieces in the newspaper “PÚBLICO”.
