Carlos Maurício Barbosa

Elected by the Portuguese Parliament

Graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences and PhD in Pharmacy, with specialization in Pharmaceutical Technology, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto (FFUP). He has held several post-graduate courses, namely at MIT and University of Barcelona, and concluded the Advanced Management Program for Healthcare Organizations at the AESE Business School of Lisbon. Currently, he is Professor at the FFUP, Counsellor of the National Council of Ethics for the Life Sciences and President of the Council for Innovation of the Portuguese Association of Engineering and Health Management. He integrates platforms for reflection on health policies. He is the author and co-author of scientific and professional books, chapters, patents and articles in the fields of Pharmacy, Medicines and Health Policies, as well as conferences and communications in congresses and other national and international meetings. He was the President of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society (Nov2009 to Feb2016) and Counsellor of the Portuguese Education Council (2010 to 2018). He was a member of the Advisory Councils of the Portuguese Medicines Agency and the Portuguese Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education. He integrated the Portuguese Delegation at the International Pharmaceutical Federation, Pharmaceutical Group of EU, Europharm Forum and the European Association for Health Professions Competent Authorities. In 1997 he coordinated the foundation of the first Pharm.D. program in Mozambique, of which he was coordinator and visiting professor until 2007. He created and directed the Medicines Technological Centre of the Portuguese Pharmacies Association. He integrated the Panel of Experts and the Editorial Committee for the Hospital Medicines National Formulary. He coordinated the conception and elaboration of the Portuguese Galenic Formulary. He was one of the founders of Portuguese Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences, President of the Spanish-Portuguese Local Chapter of Controlled Release Society and member of the Board of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Compounding. Currently, he is the President of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Society of Cosmetic Sciences.
