Maria do Céu Lourinho Soares Machado is President of INFARMED, Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL), Member of the National Council of Ethics for Life Sciences, Vice-President of the Portuguese Academy of Medicine, Vice-President of European Federation of the Academies of Medicine, Member of the Board of Early Diagnosis, Invited Professor of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and the Superior Institute of Social and Political Sciences . Expert of the General Directorate of Health for the National Health Plan. She was High Commissioner for Health (2006-2011), Member of the School Board of FMUL (2015-2017) and the Scientific Council of the same Faculty (2011-2015), Clinical Director at Santa Maria Hospital (Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte / CHLN) - (2013-2014) and Hospital Fernando Fonseca (2005-2006), Director of the Department of Pediatrics of the Hospital Santa Maria Hospital (2011-2017) and the Department of Children's at Hospital Fernando Fonseca (1996-2006), President of the General Council of the University of Évora (20 10 -2012), President of the Committee on Child and Adolescent Health (2004-2009) , President of the National Council of Oncology (2009-2011), Vice-president of National Council of fight against AIDS (2007-2011). She had 8 Research Grants (3 from the Foundation for Science and Technology), 2 Bial Clinical Medicine Awards (2002 and 2006), Amélia de Mello Quality Award (2005). It has 163 published articles, 4 books and 667 scientific communications. She was awarded the Grand Officer of the Order of Merit (2010) and Gold Medal of the Ministry of Health (2012).
