The National Council of Ethics for the Life Sciences (CNECV) issued, on April 1, 2020, the statement “PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY SITUATION DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: RELEVANT ETHICAL ASPECTS” on the main ethical issues in the context of social isolation and mandatory confinement and in a scenario of potential unavailability of resources, namely medical equipment.
In this document, the CNECV also reflected about the responsibilities of authorities and public entities, as well as citizens, in the context of the pandemic crisis, on the essential strengthening of solidarity and collaboration between people, institutions and countries, regarding the role of science in the construction of new solutions, namely pharmacological treatments and vaccines and the superlative value of life and human dignity in all circumstances.
