Biologist, Visiting Professor at ITQB NOVA, Visiting Programme Coordinator at the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, Member of the Education Council of the Municipality of Oeiras, First President and Member of the National Council of the Portuguese Association of Biologists, former President (2004–2020) and partner at the Biotechnology Information Centre, former co-founder and CEO of the InnovPlantProtect Collaborative Laboratory, General Management Course (2019/20) at the Nova School of Business & Economics, former member of the National Ethics Council for Life Sciences (2003–2010). He is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Philosophy, specialising in Moral and Political Philosophy, at the New University of Lisbon. Areas of scientific activity: Plant, Cellular and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and Bioethics. He has supervised 20 postdoctoral students, 27 PhD students and 20 Master’s students. Co-author of 113 scientific articles in indexed journals. Married, with four children and five grandchildren. Bass in the University of Nova Lisbon Choir.
