Meeting of Mediterranean Ethics Councils: Public Session to Take Place in Lisbon on 10 December
The programme structure for the Meeting of Mediterranean Ethics Councils, which will take place in Lisbon on 10 and 11 December 2026, was a key focus of the working meeting held on 23 July between the President of the CNECV, Maria do Céu Patrão Neves, and Dalia Abushady, representative of the Anna Lindh Foundation’s Mediterranean Countries Ethics Group.
The programme includes a public session on the morning of 10 December, dedicated to reflecting on the ethical challenges shared across the Euro-Mediterranean region and the contribution of ethics to public policy.
During the afternoon of 10 December and the following morning, the 3rd Informal Dialogue of Mediterranean Ethics Councils will take place, bringing together representatives of the national ethics bodies of the participating countries to promote the exchange of experiences, the sharing of good practices and the strengthening of regional cooperation.
On the afternoon of 11 December, the first in-person meeting of the Informal Working Group of Mediterranean Ethics Bodies (IWG-Med) will be held. The meeting will be reserved for the members of this working group, of which Portugal has been a member since its establishment.
The event will bring together representatives of national ethics bodies from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Morocco, Tunisia, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Jordan and Lebanon, as well as representatives of the European Commission.
Hosting this meeting in Lisbon reinforces the CNECV’s commitment to international cooperation in ethics and bioethics and to promoting dialogue among institutions facing shared ethical challenges across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
