CNECV Attends the Annual Conference of the National Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development
The National Council of Ethics for Life Sciences (CNECV) attended the 2026 Annual Conference of the National Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development (CNADS), held on May 14 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. The event featured the public presentation of the paper “Sustainable Management of the Coastal Zone.”
The CNECV was represented by its president, Maria do Céu Patrão Neves, and by council member Pedro Fevereiro.
The conference brought together experts from various fields to discuss the environmental, legal, and territorial challenges associated with coastal zone management in Portugal. The program included the presentation of the report prepared by CNADS, which warns of the coast’s growing vulnerability to coastal erosion and rising sea levels, while also highlighting urban and tourism pressures in various parts of the country. Among the recommendations is a call for greater coordination between public policies, land-use planning, and the protection of coastal ecosystems, from a long-term perspective.
